Investing in nature

  • Conferences and summits

Europe’s freshwater ecosystems are under pressure, and the consequences for the climate, biodiversity and economic future are profound. This event, hosted by EOCA in partnership with EU Green Week, brings together leading voices from conservation, policy, the outdoor industry and beyond to make the case for urgent, meaningful investment in the freshwater systems that underpin life across the continent.

Taking place on 3 June 2026 at Mundo Matongé, Brussels, this event combines expert keynotes, a panel discussion, a film screening and networking drinks, creating both an informative and inspiring afternoon for anyone who cares about the future of Europe’s rivers, lakes and wetlands.

The afternoon opens with a keynote examining the current state of the EU’s freshwater ecosystems, the vital services they provide and their role in climate mitigation. This will be followed by a policy-focused address from Claire Baffet, Freshwater Policy Lead at WWF Europe, exploring the legislative landscape and what it means for the future of Europe’s waterways.

A panel discussion will then bring together outdoor industry representatives and conservation project leads to explore how investment, from river restoration to innovation, is already making a difference and what more is needed.

WET Tirol will deliver a powerful keynote on the threats posed by energy development to freshwater ecosystems, communities and climate in the Austrian Alps, followed by a film screening that brings this story vividly to life.

The event closes with informal networking drinks, giving attendees the opportunity to connect, share ideas and build the relationships that drive real change. This event is designed for policymakers, conservationists, outdoor industry professionals, investors, academics and anyone with a stake in the future of Europe’s natural environment.

Join us for an afternoon of insight, inspiration and action, because investing in nature is investing in the future.

Dramatic alpine peaks of pale grey rock rise above lush green meadows and dark pine forests under a vivid blue sky.
