Description
'The 3Cs of circularity: who’s really winning?' is an online event organised by Generation Climate Europe (GCE) as part of EU Green Week 2025. This event critically examines what 'clean, competitive, and circular' truly means in practice, particularly in light of recent EU policy developments such as the Circular Economy Act and the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA). While these policies aim to accelerate sustainable growth, they also raise complex questions about environmental sustainability, global justice, and intergenerational equity, especially in the context of raw materials extraction and trade.
The event will bring together youth activists, policymakers, industry experts, and civil society in an intergenerational and interactive setting. It aims to challenge dominant narratives and explore who truly benefits from Europe’s circular economy ambitions, and who may be left behind.
The programme will blend creative expression with critical dialogue. It will begin with an opening statement and an interactive audience poll that frames current EU circular economy policies. An artistic activation will follow, featuring a spoken word performance or visual piece highlighting the human and environmental costs of resource extraction and waste. Documentary shorts will further illustrate the realities behind current policies in Europe.
At the heart of the event will be a fishbowl-style debate titled 'How circular means fair?', where participants will discuss the real impacts of EU policies, question whether the loop is truly being closed, and explore how youth can lead a fairer transition. The event will conclude with a call to action, synthesising key insights to inform GCE’s Youth Manifesto on Raw Materials (2025).
This session is designed for a wide audience, including young people, environmental advocates, EU institutions, academia, and the private sector. By amplifying youth voices and centring justice in the circular economy conversation, the event offers a fresh perspective on Europe’s green transition.
