Description
The '3R upcycling workshop for children: reuse, repair, recycle' will take place from 3-5 June 2025 at the Murat Kantarcı Science and Art Center in Kayseri, Turkey, in celebration of World Environment Day. The event focuses on the circular economy, sustainable production-consumption, and innovative recycling techniques. Its goals include contributing to SDG 12 (responsible production and consumption) and SDG 8.6 (sustainable development awareness) targets in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. The event also aims to provide 800 students with the ability to recycle waste materials using upcycling techniques and to support resource efficiency and zero waste targets by increasing circular economy awareness at the local level.
The target audience for this event includes 800 students from primary, secondary, and high school levels, as well as the community, including parents, educators, and administrators. The event is open to all, with free participation.
The event format includes workshops where participants will engage in creative product design using waste fabric, plastic, and paper materials, such as bags and decorative items. They will also learn 'reuse' and 'repair' techniques through practical training. There will be interactive training sessions on the basics of the circular economy, the European Union's 2030 goals, zero waste, and green professions. Additionally, an exhibition will be held, showcasing the upcycled works produced by the students.
The event is directly aligned with the EU Green Week theme, 'reuse, repair, recycle'. It contributes to the EU's green transformation goals by involving local communities in the circular economy and ensuring that all materials used are either recycled or sourced from natural sources.
Planned outputs include a 'participation certificate' for all attendees and an increase in visibility for the event through photos and videos shared on social media with the hashtag #EUGreenWeek.
This event aims to establish a strong awareness of resource efficiency and sustainable living among young generations. Through workshops, training, and outdoor activities, participants will experience the practical applications of the circular economy in daily life. This project, contributing to the global vision of EU Green Week at a local level, is designed to take a step towards an environmentally friendly future.
