Description
Join us at EU Green Week for the online event 'Circular economy innovations: from waste to valuable materials with EU R&I.' Europe generates large amounts of end-of-life products containing precious metals, which have significant recycling potential. However, current recycling technologies like smelting and hydrometallurgical processes are energy-intensive and environmentally harmful. EU-funded R&I initiatives, such as the PEACOC project, aim to address these issues by developing low-cost, environmentally friendly technologies to recover gold, silver, and Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) from complex waste mixtures.
PEACOC targets end-of-life products in Europe, including spent autocatalysts, low/mid-grade printed circuit boards (PCBA), and photovoltaic (PV) waste. The project builds on technologies from the H2020-funded PLATIRUS project, scaling them up to TRL7.
This event will showcase how circularity drives economic transition by highlighting innovative recycling technologies developed under the PEACOC project and other EU R&I initiatives. The goal is to present new industrial alternatives that improve Europe’s sustainability.
The event will feature presentations from research entities and industry experts involved in PEACOC. Topics will include the recovery of secondary resources, extraction of precious metals from complex waste streams, and the valorisation of recycled materials into new applications.
Recent results from PEACOC and other EU R&I initiatives demonstrate innovative concentration and refining technologies at a pre-commercial level, offering sustainable industrial solutions for Europe’s supply of critical metals from waste. The PEACOC pilot plant will enable technology transfer from R&D to market-ready solutions.
Additional presentations will address challenges in developing circular business models and funding opportunities for EU R&I initiatives focused on the circular economy. Attendees will gain insights into cutting-edge recycling technologies and engage with R&I experts.
The event aims to promote circular economy practices, showcasing technologies that recover precious metals from waste and transform them into marketable products. It provides a platform for collaboration and the exchange of ideas among industry representatives, policymakers, and researchers.
