Description
Every year, over 250,000 EU public authorities spend around 14% of GDP on the purchase of services, works, and supplies. In sectors such as energy, transport, waste management, social protection, and the provision of health or education services, the public sector is often the principal buyer.
In this context, the ProcuraMED project aims to support the transition towards competitive, innovative, sustainable, and resilient ecosystems in the Mediterranean. It focuses on developing the innovation capacities of enterprises and local authorities and increasing the uptake of advanced green technologies through Strategic Procurement Procedures, Public Procurement Innovation (PPI), and Green Public Procurement (GPP).
Innovation is the EU's answer to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the digitisation of economies, and ensuring the security of raw materials, energy, and food. The EU Innovation Agenda positions Europe at the forefront of innovation, aiming to bring new technologies to market through Innovation Procurement.
Strategic procurement methods, such as Green Public Procurement, Social Procurement, and Circular Procurement, are recognised as important tools for driving sustainability and social responsibility. These approaches use public spending to promote environmentally friendly, circular, and socially responsible goods and services, contributing to broader societal goals.
Moving towards this new paradigm has strong implications for policymaking, as the policy effort should be directed and diffusion promoted across society, territories, and people, with a broader range of stakeholders involved. Additionally, the relationship between the public and private sectors is crucial. Establishing an environment of trust is essential for success and helps safeguard the interests of both parties, leading to a more productive exchange of knowledge and solutions.
The objective of this event is to present green and circular procurement in a way that helps achieve strategic goals. These include:
- Presenting the benefits of strategic green and circular procurement.
- Showcasing best practices.
- Enhancing collaboration to improve innovation capacities and adopt sustainable solutions.
Target participants will include public authorities, the private sector, researchers, and NGOs. The event aims to inspire action and drive change toward greener public purchasing practices, contributing to a sustainable future.
