Description
This event, organised by the Federación de Municipios de la Región de Murcia (FMRM), aims to promote the Green City Accord (GCA) among municipalities in the Region of Murcia with over 20,000 inhabitants. As a proud supporter of the GCA, FMRM is committed to encouraging local governments to join the initiative and improve their environmental performance, particularly in the area of waste management and circular economy. The event will highlight the many benefits and opportunities that come with joining the Green City Accord, including enhanced collaboration, access to good practices, and EU-level visibility.
A key focus will be on showcasing successful local initiatives that are already making a difference. Municipalities from the Region of Murcia and from the Italian city of Arezzo will present their achievements within the framework of the LIFE Green Me 5 project, which promotes nature-based solutions, circular economy, and sustainable urban practices. The event will also feature other municipalities from the region that have developed notable circular economy projects, offering a platform for knowledge exchange and inspiration.
The event aims to raise awareness of the Green City Accord and its added value for local governments, share good practices in waste reduction, recycling, and circular economy, showcase success stories from the LIFE Green Me 5 project, foster dialogue and collaboration between municipalities, and encourage new signatories to join the Green City Accord. It is targeted at local government officials, municipal environmental and waste management departments, urban planners, sustainability experts, and stakeholders involved in environmental governance from the Region of Murcia and beyond.
The event will be held in person in Murcia and will include presentations, panel discussions, and open dialogue between municipalities. Key sessions will include case studies from Murcia and Arezzo, as well as an introduction to the benefits of the Green City Accord by FMRM and GCA representatives. The language of the event will be Spanish.
By fostering a collective regional effort and highlighting real-life solutions, this event supports the broader goals of EU Green Week 2025, bringing circular economy principles to life at the local level and empowering municipalities to lead the green transition.
