From bio-waste to fertile soil: composting workshops for residents

  • Training and workshops

Can plant leftovers from the kitchen and garden become a valuable resource instead of waste? During the workshop 'From bio-waste to fertile soil', residents of Żory learn practical ways to manage bio-waste in their homes and gardens.

The session is led by a specialist in agricultural advisory services, who introduces the basic principles of composting and demonstrates how natural processes occurring in nature can be used to produce valuable organic fertiliser. Participants learn which types of organic waste are suitable for composting, how to properly maintain a compost bin and how to avoid the most common mistakes in the composting process.

The workshop also explains the importance of composting in the context of modern bio-waste management. Participants learn about the role of compost in improving soil quality, retaining moisture in the soil and reducing the amount of waste entering municipal waste collection systems.

Part of the workshop has a hands-on character. Residents see examples of simple composting solutions and learn how to create small composting installations for plant waste in home gardens or nearby green spaces. This allows participants to apply the knowledge gained in their own gardens, allotments or household green areas.

The workshop demonstrates that responsible bio-waste management is an important element of the circular economy, where organic matter returns to the natural cycle instead of being sent to landfills. Such practices help reduce waste, improve soil quality and support more sustainable resource management in cities.

The event is implemented as part of the project 'Silesia. Blue Sky Restored'.
