Description
The 'Circular foam – systemic expansion of territorial circular ecosystems for end-of-life foam' project focuses on developing and demonstrating the technological steps required to achieve circularity for post-consumer high-performance plastics. The project uses rigid PU foams, commonly used for insulation in refrigerators and construction, as an example. It brings together a consortium of all key actors needed to close the circular value chain, including process industries, manufacturers, waste management companies, technology providers, research institutions, logistics experts, social scientists, and economists, alongside collaboration with the public sector and citizens.
A systematic approach to implementing a circular supply chain is being developed across three pilot regions with distinct characteristics: North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany), Upper Silesia (Poland), and the Greater Amsterdam region (Netherlands). This selection allows the project to address diverse practical implementation challenges, establishing a strong foundation for broader roll-out of the circular system.
The webinar will present the results of workshops held with stakeholders in these regions, outlining a collaborative framework for waste management and high-performance plastics recycling. These workshops explored sustainable transformation pathways through a structured, dialogue-based approach to scenario creation, focusing on plausible developments rather than predictions. The initiative has developed future recycling scenarios up to 2050, considering a broad range of factors beyond just refrigerators and construction materials. This work offers strategic guidance for decision-making, identifies uncertainties and risks, and encourages stakeholder engagement, commitment, and innovation.
Join us for an interactive webinar on 18th June at 10 am CET! Organised by the Circular Foam project, the event will provide insights into how regional stakeholders have been involved in the implementation of a circular supply chain using dialogue-based formats to promote transparency and trust.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss recommendations for regional policies developed in one of our model regions, contributing to the broader implementation of circular supply chains. We invite representatives from regional and EU policymakers, waste management companies, and related projects to engage in this collaborative discussion and help shape the future of sustainable plastic recycling.
