Description
An open event co-organised by Universitat de Lleida, Universitat de Zaragoza, Ingredalia, and Recoop as beneficiaries of the NEWPOWER project under the Interreg Sudoe Programme.
This event is part of the dissemination activities of the NEWPOWER project, co-funded by the Interreg Sudoe Programme. 'A day in NEWPOWER' offers a full morning of immersive and engaging activities aimed at helping the general public discover how science and sustainability come together to give new life to what is usually considered waste.
Participants will begin with a guided visit to research laboratories, where they will learn about innovative technologies used to extract and stabilise valuable compounds from agricultural and forest residues, such as vine prunings, wild plants, or forest biomass. This session includes demonstrations, explanations of equipment, and visual materials.
The second part will offer a hands-on science showcase, featuring bioactive compounds derived from these residues. Visitors will explore how such compounds may offer antioxidant or therapeutic properties, with symbolic "natural first-aid kit" displays, scientific illustrations, and simple experiments.
To close the experience, the event includes a showcase of upcycled bio-based products, presenting real examples of how ingredients obtained from agro-industrial waste can be integrated into everyday items. Visitors will see and understand how these products are used in food, supplements, biofertilisers, and more.
The event promotes a circular vision of innovation and aims to bring scientific advances closer to society in a simple, accessible, and meaningful way.
