Description

The event will highlight the importance of key waste management concepts and economic instruments, in line with the waste hierarchy and the separate collection of solid waste at source. This approach leads to high-quality recycling and reuse, thereby promoting the circular economy.
In this context, extended producer responsibility will be analysed and best practices presented in the area of battery recycling, taking into account the full life cycle of a battery. The economic instruments of pay-as-you-throw and deposit return schemes (DRS) will be explained, with good practices showcased to support the development of appropriate legal frameworks or improve the implementation of existing ones.
Coca-Cola Greece and a prominent supermarket chain (Vasilopoulos) will be invited to the discussion, as they are actively involved in applying these economic instruments on the ground.
The Greek circular economy strategy and its roadmap will be discussed, with a focus on improving the implementation of still unimplemented priorities related to waste management streams, economic instruments, and landfill fees—an issue that remains controversial.
The event will be open to all stakeholders and will involve the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Hellenic Recycling Agency, public authorities at national and local levels, the business community, academia, the media, and civil society.
It will be hosted at the premises of the European Public Law Organisation (EPLO) and will be recorded and uploaded to the EPLO website and YouTube. Prominent experts from the above stakeholders and the EPLO network will participate as speakers and contributors to this interactive event.
