Description
Regional governments are committed to ensuring a healthy environment for their citizens. PFAS pollution in water and soil pose real challenges to saveguarding such a healthy environment. A European restriction of the use of PFAS substances, as proposed by The Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Norway and Sweden to ECHA, would help in limiting the risk of PFAS to people and planet.
Simultaneously, PFAS are used in many products and production processes that would need to find alternatives. The central question in this debate remains: how do we get to a European PFAS restriction, that is feasible, fair and effective? During this roundtable we would like to facilitate the ongoing conversation on this topic, highlighting regional challenges that come with being the authorities responsible for granting permits, supervision and the enforcement of environmental standards and legislation.
The target audience exists out of European policy- and decisionmakers, local, regional and national governments, interest groups and media. The foreseen program format consists of several speakers and a round table discussion, after which the conversation can continue during organized drinks.
