Description
In the contex of its General Assembly, the InnWater European project has organised an event, scheduled for 5 June 2024 in Saint-Denis de la Réunion, aiming to address governance issues through lively conversations and exchanges among European stakeholders, including outermost regions, and partners from Southern Africa region.
This 3,5 hours physical event will feature discussions on managing water crises for a first part, including insights from Mayotte and Cape Town. Indeed, Mayotte has recently faced a serious water crisis, in the second semester of 2023.
Cape Town, which also experience a water crisis over the period 2016-2018, is already planning how to manage the next crisis with, in particular, innovative actions in terms of citizen engagement.
The second part involves a World Café where Pilot Sites will present water challenges and implications for governance to local stakeholders representing different sectors (water and sanitation services, agriculture, food, health, civil society, members of the citizens’ council of the city of Saint Denis de La Réunion, policy makers, researchers).
Topics include water pricing in La Réunion, managing water extremities in Tisza, water and nature conservation in Brenta, conflicting water uses between agriculture and tourism in Figueres, and citizen science in Westcountry.
The event provides a platform for sharing experiences and fostering dialogue on sustainable water governance practices, with outermost regions very keen on exchanges, usually not so frequent because of their geographical distance from other countries and stakeholders.
