Tackling inequalities related to the green transition

As Europe begins preparing its post-2028 policy framework, this workshop explores how European indexes and policy tools can evolve to better address inequalities linked to the green and twin transitions.
 
The event builds on the findings of the ST4TE project, which develops a comprehensive understanding of the drivers behind the twin transition, the inequalities it may create or deepen, and a set of recommendations to help build greener, fairer and more productive societies.
 
Discussions focus on the 'Twin Transition Index' developed by the ST4TE project. The session highlights its added value and examines how it can support the design and coordination of European, national and regional policies, contributing to the objectives of the European Green Deal. Investing in a nature-positive economy requires not only the right financial instruments but also the right policy intelligence — indexes and indicators that reveal where green investment is most needed, where transitions risk deepening inequality, and how public resources can be directed to generate both environmental and social returns.
 
The workshop is organised in three 30-minute sessions:

presentations by Dr Christina Kakderi, Coordinator of the ST4TE project; Dr Mathieu Doussineau, Senior Policy Analyst at EFIS Centre; and Dr Andrea Conte, Head of the Territorial Economic Data, Analysis and Modelling team at the Joint Research Centre; covering the 'ST4TE Twin Transition Index'; its added value compared to existing European indexes; and ongoing developments in the TEDV indicator;
exchange with EU policymakers on policy relevance; implementation pathways; governance implications; and coordination challenges; and
open discussion with all participants on challenges; opportunities; and future research needs.

The workshop targets European policymakers as well as actors involved in analysing and supporting the twin transitions, and involves ST4TE 'sister projects' MOBI-TWIN, FITTER-EU and READJUST.
