Biodiversa+, together with Banque de France, the BiodivRestore Knowledge Hub, the French Foundation for Biodiversity Research (FRB), and the RESPIN project, will co-organise a high-level workshop on 10 June 2026 in Paris.
Biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation are increasingly recognised as material risks to economic performance, financial stability and long-term value creation. However, the limited integration of nature into economic and financial systems continues to drive ecosystem degradation and the loss of essential services. The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) calls on businesses and financial institutions to assess and manage impacts and dependencies on nature (Target 15); eliminate harmful incentives (Target 18); and scale and redirect financial flows towards biodiversity-positive outcomes (Target 19).
This event aims to strengthen the interface between science, policy and finance, supporting the transition towards nature-positive financial systems in line with European and global policy momentum.
The workshop will bring together central banks, financial institutions, investors, researchers, European Commission representatives and business coalitions. Discussions will focus on how scientific knowledge and emerging methodologies can help identify and manage nature-related risks, inform decision-making and redirect financial flows towards biodiversity-positive outcomes.
Drawing on recent assessments from IPBES, including Business and Biodiversity, Nexus and Transformative Change, the workshop will explore how science can better support financial actors.
The programme will combine plenary and interactive sessions to examine real-world constraints; identify decision bottlenecks; define research priorities; and explore conditions for uptake of scientific tools.
Breakout discussions will address restoration planning, modelling and validation, Indigenous and local knowledge, harmful incentives and emerging instruments such as nature credits.
The workshop will contribute to international discussions on biodiversity and finance, including preparations for CBD COP17, by strengthening science–finance cooperation.
