Description
This one-day event, consisting of an accessible hike (2h outward - 2h return) and a convivial stopover, has been designed for families and all mountain enthusiasts. It aims to enable participants to discover or deepen their knowledge of water management in mountain refuges, as part of an awareness-raising approach. This event is intended for both Italian and French speakers, and translation will be provided if required.
The planned itinerary will take place in the Marguareis Natural Park, and participants will be welcomed and guided by a member of the park's staff. They will be able to discuss the day's topic, as well as broader issues such as the effects of climate change on water resources, or the impact of drought on alpine ecosystems.
The picnic lunch will be followed by a guided tour of the Garelli refuge, which will provide a practical introduction to the challenges of water management in mountain areas, particularly in this type of accommodation. Issues such as drinking water supply, limitation of water consumption and wastewater treatment will be discussed.
The Garelli refuge is equipped with an innovative plant-based water treatment system (phyto-purification), whose functioning and design will be presented, including the careful choice of plants adapted to the alpine environment.
This event is organised jointly by the Alpi Marittime Protected Areas Management Body, which includes the Marguareis Natural Park, and the Mercantour National Park, through the CEGT Parc européen/Parco europeo Alpi Marittime-Mercantour. It is made possible by the synergy between two cross-border Interreg ALCOTRA projects: ACLIMO on water and climate change, and BiodivTourAlps on tourism and biodiversity.
