The European SharedH2-SUDOE project seeks to consolidate renewable hydrogen as a viable energy storage solution in self-consumption communities, especially in rural areas. The initiative covers territories in Spain, Portugal and France, advancing technical and scientific knowledge in the sector and testing innovative solutions through pilot cases in at least three strategic locations across the SUDOE territory.
Transitioning rural communities away from fossil fuels is itself an investment in nature. By promoting renewable energy storage through green hydrogen, the project helps improve air quality, reduce pressure on natural resources and support more resilient local energy systems. The pilot schemes are designed to integrate into their local environments with a deliberate focus on minimising impacts on existing habitats — recognising that the shift to clean energy must go hand in hand with the protection of the ecosystems and landscapes in which it is deployed. Over the medium and long term, these approaches are expected to generate positive impacts on biodiversity, soil health and water resources in the participating territories.
The webinars aim to present the simulation platform and pilot cases developed within the framework of the project, including a hydrogen filling station for bicycles in France, the Bembibre energy community in Spain, and a pilot case in Portugal led by the Areanatejo Energy Agency. Each session will also feature an interactive participatory tool to encourage audience engagement.
Three webinars will be held on 3 June (in French), 4 June (in Spanish) and 5 June (in Portuguese), each running from one hour with presentations, pilot case studies and an open Q&A.
