Claudia FUSCO

Claudia Fusco is Director for General Affairs, Knowledge and Resources at the Directorate-General for Environment (DG ENV) as of 1st February 2024.

Having served the Commission for over two decades, Ms Fusco has acquired deep knowledge of a variety of EU policy areas, including competition, transport, internal market, environment, and energy. Her experience includes among others the handling of state aid cases in the transport sector and the development of aviation security legislation, together with the coordination of infringement procedure in the electricity and gas field. She has also extensive knowledge of the promotion of small and medium-size enterprises policy, the development of a circular economy and the protection of the environment. She honed her coordination and leadership skills while being assistant to the Director-General of the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) and DG ENV.

Before taking up her function as Director, Claudia Fusco was Head of Unit for seven years. She was Head of Green knowledge and Research Hub, LIFE unit in DG ENV for two years where she ensured that environmental policies are supported by sound and up-to-date scientific knowledge through Horizon Europe and steer the development and implementation of the LIFE programme. Previously, she was Head of Environmental knowledge, SMEs and Eco-innovation unit in DG ENV for five years.

Before joining the Commission in 2001, she worked as a customs official. Ms Fusco holds a law degree and a PhD in public finance.
