Policy Officer, DG Environment


Monica PISANI, born and bred in Finland, has worked on environment strategy at the European Commission since 2013, and before this as European Commission Press Officer for Environment (2009-2013). She currently works as Policy Officer for DG Environment’s Strategy unit, in charge of the 8th Environment Action Programme and the monitoring of progress towards its priority objectives. 

Her formation is in Political Science, though a humanist at heart and a keen and proficient communicator, she has several years of experience as a freelance journalist. Besides communication, she is passionate about wellbeing, resilience, co-creation and collaboration. She believes the key to accelerating the just green transition lies in how we relate to ourselves, each other, and nature.  In her free time she loves to sing, practise yoga, play football, read and write, spend time in nature, as well as connect to her family and friends.  In 2012 she co-edited and published The Meantime – nine short stories from Brussels. 

She lives in Brussels with her husband and two young children.
