Ricardo Araújo has been Mayor of Guimarães since October 2025.
Born in Guimarães, Ricardo Araújo holds a degree in International Relations from the University of Minho, an Executive MBA from Porto Business School, and has completed international executive training in Leadership at IE Business School and in Strategy and Innovation at Cornell University (United States).
As a manager, he was a member of the senior management team of the EFACEC Group. He has held various positions at both national and international level, notably serving as President of Movijovem – Mobility and Youth Tourism; Member of the Board of Directors of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth; and Member of the Board of Directors of the OIJ – Ibero-American Youth Organisation.
He was Deputy Civil Governor of Braga; Member of the Guimarães Municipal Assembly; Vice-President of the Braga District Social Democratic Party; President of the Guimarães Social Democratic Party; and Councillor at Guimarães City Council representing the Social Democratic Party since 2013.
Ricardo Araújo has served as a Member of Parliament in the 16th and 17th Legislatures since March 2024.
