City in the face of climate change. Young people talk about the future

  • Public debates

Modern cities are increasingly facing challenges related to climate change. Rising temperatures, intense rainfall, flooding and deteriorating air quality affect the everyday functioning of residents. During the educational meetings ‘City in the face of climate change. Young people talk about the future’, primary school students have the opportunity to explore how the urban environment is changing and what actions can help build more resilient places to live.

The event takes place in primary schools in Żory and takes the form of an interactive meeting combining elements of a presentation and discussion with students. Participants learn about the most important phenomena related to climate change and find out how these processes affect the functioning of cities.

During the meetings, examples of actions taken in many European cities to reduce the impacts of climate change are presented. Students learn how the development of urban greenery, the creation of parks and rain gardens, improving the energy efficiency of buildings and developing environmentally friendly transport can help create healthier and more liveable cities.

An important element of the meeting is also a discussion about the economy of the future. Students learn about investments in green technologies, renewable energy sources and solutions based on the circular economy. In this way, they see that climate action is also an important element of modern economic development.

The meetings aim to encourage the younger generation to actively think about the future of their cities. Students are able to reflect on what changes are needed to make cities more environmentally friendly and how everyday choices made by residents can support climate action.

The event is implemented as part of the LIFE project ‘Silesia. Blue Sky Restored’.
Hosts: mgr Anna Gawełczyk-Kretek, head of primary school no. 4, and Joanna Szerzyńska-Grabowska, eco-manager of the Żory municipality.
