How do climate changes affect the functioning of modern cities and what can be done to better prepare for future challenges? During the educational panel ‘Climate change. What can we do in our city to face the future?’ primary school students have the opportunity to reflect together on how cities can respond to the impacts of climate change and what actions help create more resilient and environmentally friendly urban spaces.
The meetings take place in primary schools in Żory and combine a presentation with a discussion panel. This format allows students not only to learn the basic facts about climate change but also to actively participate in a conversation about the future of their cities.
During the session, participants learn how climate change affects the urban environment. Topics such as heat waves, heavy rainfall and flooding, deteriorating air quality and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events are discussed. Students also explore examples of actions cities can take to reduce the impacts of these changes.
Special attention is given to urban climate adaptation measures, including the development of green infrastructure, the creation of new green areas, improving the energy efficiency of buildings, expanding environmentally friendly transport systems and managing water and energy resources responsibly.
The panel also demonstrates that climate action is closely linked with the functioning of the modern economy. Investments in green technologies, the development of renewable energy sources and the implementation of circular economy principles are becoming key elements in building modern cities that combine economic growth with environmental protection.
The event aims to strengthen the environmental awareness of the younger generation and show that students themselves can influence the future of their cities through everyday decisions, responsible choices and active engagement in environmental actions.
The event is implemented as part of the project ‘Silesia. Blue Sky Restored’.
