Las Rozas is committed to the development of a sustainable and innovative governance of the city. In this sense, it has established an ambitious package of measures to improve climate adaptation and efficient management of natural resources.
Moreover, by promoting eco-education in schools and engaging citizens, the municipality will address the risks that climate change is posing in recent years. This is why Las Rozas has organised an annual collaborative project with the participation of the municipality’s schools: ‘Las Rozas Climate Mission’.
The eco-schools programme is promoted by the Foundation for Environmental Education and developed in Spain by ADEAC. During the 2023/2024 academic year, a total of 29 schools (public, private and subsidised) have been part of the Las Rozas Eco-Schools Network, which is the largest local network in Spain.
Students carry out several activities and actions, such as research on sustainable water management as an essential natural resource, as well as energy efficiency. They develop ideas and proposals that help improve comprehensive and sustainable environmental management through eco-innovation and digital technologies.
During EU Green Week, the municipal environmental department, represented by its councillor and technical experts, will present innovative and technological use cases implemented in the city, while students will present their initiatives. The best student project will be awarded the Las Rozas Sustainable Badge.
The event will take place in one of the most relevant spots of the city: the environmental centre ‘La Talaverona’.
