Investing in nature restoration – lessons from a billion-euro market

  • Conferences and summits

Since its inception in the 1970s, the German Impact Mitigation Regulation has led to the development of a market that allocates €1–2 billion annually towards nature restoration efforts. Its decentralised governance structure and state-specific regulatory systems, combined with a lack of public records for projects and transactions, present barriers to external study. Consequently, this session offers a ‘deep dive’ from the perspective of one of the market’s leading actors.

The workshop is tailored for investors seeking exposure to nature-based solutions, policymakers looking for mechanisms to finance restoration goals and practitioners interested in case studies.

The format is a 90-minute webinar, beginning with a 40-minute presentation and concluding with a 50-minute expert panel. The session will establish a foundational understanding of nature markets, covering price and profit determination, risk and insurance, and transparent registration. The panel will contextualise these markets within the broader sustainable finance ecosystem, followed by a Q&A session.
