2nd BioINSouth Forum

  • Conferences and summits

BioINSouth is an EU initiative accelerating the transition towards a more competitive, innovative and territorially grounded circular bioeconomy in Southern Europe. In this context, the 2nd BioINSouth Forum brings together policymakers, regional authorities, research organisations, industry leaders, clusters, investors and innovation actors to explore how Southern European regions can take a leading role in shaping a competitive, resilient and sustainable European bioeconomy — one in which nature is not an externality to be managed, but a strategic asset to be invested in.

Organised in the framework of the BioINSouth project, the forum focuses on strengthening regional bio-based strategies, fostering interregional cooperation and accelerating the transition from innovation to market uptake. At its core, the bioeconomy represents one of the most direct expressions of investing in nature: it builds economic value from the sustainable use of biological resources, creating incentives to protect, restore and manage ecosystems as productive natural capital. Over two days, participants will exchange experiences, discuss policy alignment and identify concrete pathways to unlock the bioeconomy potential of Southern Europe.

The forum will showcase regional bioeconomy strategies and BioINSouth HUBs; discuss challenges and opportunities for bio-based innovation in Southern Europe; align regional strengths with EU bioeconomy, green transition and industrial policies; foster collaboration between regions, EU institutions, industry, investors and innovation ecosystems; and support the transition from research and pilot activities to market deployment — ensuring that investment in nature-based solutions generates tangible economic returns and scalable models for other regions.

The target audience includes regional and national public authorities; European Commission representatives; bioeconomy clusters and networks; industry, SMEs and start-ups; research and innovation organisations; and investors and business support organisations.

The format combines keynote speeches, high-level panel discussions, HUB presentations, open debates, poster sessions and networking opportunities. The agenda also includes satellite and private events to deepen collaboration among selected initiatives and regions.

The programme will feature representatives from DG ENV, DG RTD, DG REGIO, the CBE JU, Joint Research Centre, BioEast, European Bioeconomy Clusters Alliance, Circular Cities and Regions Initiative, Bio-based Industries Consortium, industry leaders, investors and regional authorities. Discussions are moderated by experienced bioeconomy and innovation policy experts.

By connecting regional ambitions with European priorities, the BioINSouth Forum 2026 aims to catalyse concrete actions and partnerships that will strengthen the role of Southern Europe in the EU bioeconomy transition — demonstrating that investing in nature and investing in economic competitiveness are not competing goals, but two sides of the same strategy.
