Ancient practices as responses to water management challenges

  • Conferences and summits

A dual event consisting of an online public debate and a climate walk, organised in the framework of the EU Green Week 2026 Partners Event.

The online public debate, led by EU Climate Pact Ambassadors Greece, is titled: “Ancient practices as responses to water management challenges.” Under the theme “Investing in Nature – Rewarding for People and Business,” the discussion will explore how traditional water stewardship techniques represent a long-term investment in natural systems, supporting resilience, sustainability, and resource efficiency. By revisiting ancient practices that worked in harmony with ecosystems, the event highlights how nature-based and culturally rooted solutions can inform today’s transition toward a nature-positive economy. These approaches demonstrate that investing in ecological balance is not only an environmental necessity, but also a pathway to social and economic value.

The second component is a Climate Walk at the site of Lavrio, designed to engage the local community and raise awareness of water management challenges, EU water policy, and sustainable adaptation measures. Through place-based dialogue and experiential learning, participants will connect historical knowledge with present-day environmental priorities, reinforcing the role of local action in building resilient and nature-positive communities.
