Description

Hosted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), this high-level event will explore how circular economy practices can contribute to Ukraine’s green industrial recovery and deepen environmental cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union. Organised as part of EU Green Week 2025 and within the framework of the EU4Green Recovery East programme, the event will serve as a platform for dialogue, policy exchange, and the promotion of sustainable industrial practices. It will also present the main findings of UNIDO’s recent report, 'Towards the circular economy in Ukraine', which identifies key opportunities in sectors such as construction, food systems, plastics and packaging, electronics, and ICT.
The event aims to present the current state of circular economy development in Ukraine and identify pathways for its advancement, focusing on integrating circular principles into Ukraine’s industrial and policy frameworks. It will bring together stakeholders from Ukrainian ministries, EU institutions, the private sector, civil society, and international organisations to share insights on how to align Ukraine’s green recovery with European environmental goals. The event will encourage innovation, investment, and technology transfer between European and Ukrainian actors, promote policy coherence, and build long-term partnerships to enhance sustainability and resilience in Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction.
The target audience includes policymakers, representatives of EU institutions, Ukrainian government officials, business leaders, environmental experts, NGOs, academic institutions, and development partners. The format includes welcoming remarks and opening speeches by senior officials from the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the government of Ukraine. This will be followed by a presentation of the key findings from the UNIDO report, a panel discussion with EU and Ukrainian experts on how industrial circular economy practices can support economic competitiveness and sustainability, and an open exchange with the audience. A networking reception will follow the formal programme.
This event will help catalyse cooperation around circular economy solutions for Ukraine’s recovery, support the implementation of the European Green Deal, and contribute to Ukraine’s alignment with EU environmental legislation and standards.
