Description

Raising public awareness about the use of reclaimed water in agriculture. The main objectives are to present the viability of using reclaimed water for food production in irrigated agriculture. The concerns and problems identified by farmers, as the final recipients of this water resource, will be addressed. A legal context for the use of reclaimed water in Spain and Andalusia will be presented, along with an overview of the objectives pursued by the I-ReWater Project, which includes 15 pilot projects in the SUDOE area.
Additionally, the economic costs, pollution barriers, and funding opportunities for new projects will be analysed. The format will include relevant speakers from public entities, as well as sector experts from Spanish associations and companies linked to irrigation. A roundtable discussion will focus on water users, particularly irrigators, with the participation of all stakeholders in the value chain.
Finally, attendees will engage in a participatory activity to evaluate the knowledge acquired during the conference and to share their views on the pros and cons of using reclaimed water. The event's target audience includes all stakeholders in the sector, especially end consumers and farmers, with a focus on irrigators in southern Spain.
