Description

Raising public awareness about the use of reclaimed water in agriculture. The main objectives are to present the viability of using reclaimed water for food production in irrigated agriculture. The concerns and problems identified by farmers as the final recipient of this water resource will be addressed. A legal context for the use of reclaimed water in Spain and Andalusia will be presented, as well as a presentation of the objectives pursued by the I-ReWater Project with 15 pilot projects in the SUDOE area. In addition, the economic costs, pollution barriers, and funding lines for new projects will be analysed.
The format will include relevant speakers from public entities, along with sector experts from Spanish associations and companies linked to irrigation. A roundtable discussion will be held focusing on water users: irrigators, with the participation of all stakeholders in the value chain. Finally, attendees will participate in a participatory activity evaluating the knowledge acquired during the conference and contributing their pros and cons regarding the use of reclaimed water. The event's target audience is all stakeholders in the sector, including end consumers and farmers, especially irrigators in southern Spain.
