Description
The 2030 Agenda, adopted by the United Nations, centres 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the heart of the participating countries' global policies and economic strategies until 2030. The objectives promote economic prosperity, environmental protection, and social equity, underlining the need for joint and global action.
In this context, the circular economy emerges as a strategic solution to achieve these objectives, as it proposes an economic model that reduces waste, valorises resources, and minimises environmental impact. This model represents an economic paradigm capable of overcoming the traditional linear model characterised by 'take, produce, consume, and dispose', proposing instead a system that values reduction, re-use, recycling, and recovery of materials throughout the life cycle of products.
This sustainable model is essential to effectively respond to the growing pressure on natural resources and mitigate the environmental impact of human activities. The integration of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and blockchain technology, is crucial to transforming industrial sectors into more sustainable, resilient, and globally competitive production and consumption lines.
In response to these challenges and opportunities, on 20 June 2025, at the Niccolò Cusano University of Rome, an international roundtable entitled 'Circularity beyond sustainability: circular business models drive resilient growth' will be held. This event aims to facilitate a constructive dialogue between academia and business, exploring how circular business models can effectively promote resilient and sustainable growth.
The roundtable will be attended by representatives of leading companies, who will present their circular business models, and international university professors, who will present new circular frameworks applicable to business models. Through this interaction, the event aims not only to deepen knowledge about circular models but also to stimulate the adoption of these innovative practices globally and raise awareness of sustainability issues among citizens.
