CITEEC’s research activities focus on four scientific areas directly aligned with the EU Green Week:
- Sustainable construction and industrial development, promoting low-impact materials and processes
- Intelligent transport and sustainable mobility, integrating efficient, low-carbon transport solutions
- Management of natural and urban water resources, addressing resilience and adaptation to global changes in coastal and hydraulic systems
- Energy transition, supporting the shift to low-carbon energy in infrastructure and buildings
During June 2026, CITEEC will host a series of activities highlighting the intersection of research, innovation and sustainability.
- Conference: Professor Sebastián Villasante, director of the EqualSea Lab (funded by the European Research Council) and Coordinating Lead Author for the IPBES Transformative Change Assessment, the Global Tipping Points Reports and the III World Ocean Assessment. His conference will illustrate how scientific evidence can be translated into actionable guidance to strengthen the implementation and effectiveness of international and national policies.
- Conference: Architect Adrian Krezlik, researcher at the Univ. of Porto and co-founder of Dosta Tec. Drawing on works performed across Portugal, Poland, Germany, Spain, Uruguay and Turkey, the lecture will explore how environmental analysis, vernacular climate strategies and life-cycle assessment can inform design decisions from the earliest stages.
- Workshop: a hands-on Applied Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for infrastructure. Through case studies, participants will explore how LCA can be integrated into the development and evaluation of real projects, with particular attention to life-cycle modules and the influence of early-stage material and process impacts on the overall environmental performance.
- Climate walk in A Coruña city: participants will explore how traditional architecture adapts to the Atlantic climate, analysing features such as orientation, windows, glazed galleries, roofs and materials in response to wind, humidity, rain and solar variation.
- CITEEC Interlabs Green Week Special Edition: early-career researchers and technicians will present work aligned with EU Green Week themes, including green infrastructure and nature-based solutions.
- Open Lab Days: guided lab tours, demonstrations and prototypes will engage the public, including students, families, youth, seniors and local communities.
