Description
Composting is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce organic waste while naturally enriching the soil. This workshop at the Municipal Public Library in Godów will provide participants with practical knowledge on how to set up and maintain a compost bin, understand the rules of proper composting, and ensure the health of the compost, transforming organic waste into valuable fertiliser.
During the session, key topics will include:
- How to start composting? – Choosing the right location and type of compost bin suited to different conditions.
- What can and cannot be composted? – Guidelines on selecting organic waste to avoid unpleasant odours and decomposition problems.
- Keeping compost healthy – Balancing moisture, air circulation, and the right mix of "green" and "brown" materials for optimal decomposition.
Composting is not just about waste reduction; it is an integral part of the circular economy, where organic matter returns to the cycle as nutrient-rich fertiliser. It also plays a role in improving air quality by reducing methane emissions from landfill decomposition, which contributes to climate change.
Additionally, the event will feature a presentation on the results of a community exchange initiative, highlighting how many items were saved from waste and found new owners. This summary will lead into a discussion on the 5R principle (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot), emphasising that the circular economy starts with mindful consumer choices.
This event is an excellent opportunity to learn practical ways to minimise waste, improve soil health, and contribute to cleaner air, all through simple everyday actions.
This event is organised as part of the LIFE project 'Silesia. Blue Sky Restored.'
