Description

The waste situation is visibly a severe problem in Somalia, not only in cities and villages but also along connecting roads and beach sites. Small scale initiatives of producing crafts and other products from waste, exist in Somalia.
However, recycling is not practiced at a large scale. In this context the EU presence in the country is expected to continuously improve their environmental performance. The civilian and military missions EUCAP and EUTM, located in the same compound, acknowledge their waste footprint, particularly plastic and metal waste, which adds to the severe situation in Mogadishu.
Through seminars with invited speakers from Ministries and experts on circularity, beach clean-up, quiz and recycled art exhibit, the Green Week activities aim at raising general awareness of circularity and initiating a dialogue with policy makers, corporate sector and civil society on solutions and ways forward.
