Digital innovations for soil health: investing in nature through sustainable farming technologies

  • Koulutus ja työpajat

This online webinar will showcase innovative European research and innovation projects working at the intersection of soil health, sustainable agriculture and digital technologies, contributing to the EU Green Week 2026 theme ‘Investing in Nature’.

Healthy soils are fundamental to sustainable food systems, climate resilience, biodiversity protection and economic prosperity in rural areas. However, soil degradation, nutrient imbalances and environmental pressures continue to threaten agricultural productivity across Europe. Investing in soil health is therefore not only an environmental priority but also a key driver for a resilient and competitive European agri-food sector.

The webinar will present innovative solutions developed by EU-funded projects WHEATWATCHER, NitroScope, STELLA and E-SPFdigit, highlighting how research and digital technologies can support sustainable soil management and nature-positive farming systems.

Speakers will present approaches including:

Digital technologies and sensing tools for soil health monitoring
Innovative solutions for nitrogen management and nutrient cycles
Precision agriculture and soil-health innovations supporting sustainable farming

The role of research and innovation in enabling nature-positive agricultural systems

The event will also explore how investing in soil health can generate environmental, economic and societal benefits, including improved agricultural productivity, reduced environmental impacts and stronger resilience of rural communities.

The webinar will bring together researchers, policymakers, farmers, agri-tech innovators and stakeholders from the EU Mission ‘A Soil Deal for Europe’ community. It will provide an opportunity to exchange knowledge, showcase innovative solutions and discuss how digital technologies and sustainable practices can support Europe’s transition towards a nature-positive economy.

The event will include project presentations, expert insights and an interactive discussion with participants.
