EcoSwap: items in good hands

  • Conferences and summits

Can everyday objects have a second life? And could items that have lost their value for one person become a treasure for someone else? 'EcoSwap. Items in good hands' is an event for everyone who wants to support the environment in a simple, practical and enjoyable way.

During the event at the Municipal Marketplace in Będzin, special exchange zones will be created where residents can bring items they no longer need and find them new owners. It is a great opportunity to give objects a second life, reduce waste and show that responsible consumption can be part of everyday life, and that reducing pressure on natural resources is something every resident can contribute to directly.

In the book exchange zone, literature lovers will be able to leave books they have already read and discover new titles for their home libraries. The exchange will include children's books, popular science titles, guides, cookbooks, novels and albums.

The plant and seedlings zone will allow participants to share greenery with others. Potted plants, flower seedlings, herbs and seeds will find new caretakers and enrich more homes, balconies and gardens. Each plant that finds a new home is a small but genuine investment in nature, contributing to greener urban spaces, improved air quality and greater biodiversity in the places where people live.

Families will also be invited to the toy exchange zone, where children and parents can swap board games, puzzles and educational toys. Items that some children have already outgrown can bring joy to others while teaching the youngest participants that not everything needs to be bought new, and that choosing to reuse is a simple, everyday act of care for the natural world.

EcoSwap is more than just exchanging objects. It is a meeting of residents who want to act responsibly and build a more sustainable future together. Initiatives like this show that investing in nature can begin with everyday choices, sharing resources, reducing unnecessary consumption and reusing items instead of discarding them, and that when these choices are made collectively, their environmental impact is far greater than the sum of individual actions.

During the event, representatives of the Będzin Municipal Office and the local eco-advisor will also be present at an information stand, offering consultations on the regional anti-smog regulations and available support programmes for upgrading heating systems, connecting residents with the financial and policy tools that support cleaner, more nature-friendly living.

EcoSwap is a place where objects find new owners and good ideas spread further. It is a simple action with a real environmental impact: less waste, fewer wasted resources and more conscious choices, proving that community-driven investment in nature can be as accessible, inclusive and enjoyable as a visit to the local marketplace.

The event is organised as part of the project 'Silesia. Blue Sky Restored'.

Host: Karol Żołobko, eco-manager of the Municipality of Będzin.
