Description
Farmers' markets serve as meeting spaces between local farmers and consumers, offering the opportunity to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables directly from producers in the Baix Llobregat Agrarian Park. These markets reflect a commitment to promoting seasonal, local agriculture that is socially and environmentally just, while encouraging responsible consumption that minimises packaging waste and reduces the carbon footprint associated with imported products.
As Viladecans, recognised as a European Green Leaf City 2025, the vegetable farmers' market is eager to join European Green Week 2025 with a special edition on 7th June, dedicated to the circular economy in food systems. Under the theme "From farm to table with zero waste", we will explore how farmers' markets can play a key role in waste reduction and the promotion of more sustainable consumption habits.
Featured activities:
- Showcooking: waste-free cooking
A demonstration of how to maximise the use of market produce, creating delicious recipes from fruit and vegetable parts that are often discarded. - Children’s area: little circulars
A fun and educational space where children will learn about recycling and upcycling through games and creative workshops using recycled materials.
Through this event, the Viladecans farmers' market will not only continue offering fresh and local products, but will also promote a new way of consuming, based on waste reduction, reuse, and sustainability. As a European Green Leaf City 2025, we will display the Green Leaf logo throughout the event.
