Description
The University of Catania is the managing body of 7 Nature Reserves in Sicily. Through the involvement of the university community and civil society, it promotes a series of activities to spread the culture of sustainability and the conscious use of our planet's resources, and water is among the most precious assets for the life of living beings.
Within the protected areas guided tours will stop at the most evocative settings where the presence of water creates environments of particular naturalistic value; in these places unique and important patches of vegetation are often protected by law.
Also important is the function of the museum areas which provide scientific and in-depth support for the guided tours. In these areas, there will be seminars and workshops held by personnel from the University of Catania as well as viewing naturalistic and geological exhibits.
The activities are aimed at schools, associations and the entire community. The programme of events includes:
- Guided visits to Nature Reserves;
- Seminar on "The role of protected natural areas in mitigating climate change"
- Educational tours at the University Museums on the theme: "The Museum tells the story of the resilience of water in the communities of the past for a sustainable future".
