'Green mission: Małoszyce' - A family eco picnic

  • Conferences and summits

Can celebrating together also be an investment in nature? In Małoszyce, the answer is yes. The Family Eco Picnic combines the joy of a community celebration with discovering the natural world and building environmental awareness from an early age.

Children, parents and local residents gather in a green outdoor space to spend an active afternoon filled with fun and inspiring eco-activities. The picnic demonstrates that investing in nature begins with knowledge, imagination and everyday choices made by the community, and that community events like this one are powerful vehicles for translating environmental values into lasting habits and behaviours.

During the event, young participants take part in environmental workshops, where they learn the basic principles of caring for the environment through play and creativity. Outdoor games, quizzes, colouring activities and competitions help children explore the secrets of nature and understand why protecting and restoring ecosystems matters not only for the future of their local area, but for the health, wellbeing and prosperity of everyone who depends on it.

A special highlight is the creative eco-bag design zone, where children are able to design their own reusable bags. This activity shows that reusable bags can be both practical and colourful while helping to reduce plastic waste. It is a simple but meaningful way to demonstrate how everyday decisions, such as limiting single-use packaging, reduce pressure on natural resources and contribute to a more nature-friendly economy.

The picnic also features classic outdoor attractions. Children enjoy inflatable play areas, slides and a variety of outdoor games and activities, making the event a lively space for family fun and community integration, and reinforcing the idea that a life in closer harmony with nature is not one of sacrifice, but of richness and shared enjoyment.

The Family Eco Picnic in Małoszyce shows that investing in nature also means investing in the knowledge, values and attitudes of younger generations. Through play, creativity and shared experiences, children learn that caring for the environment can be joyful, inspiring and full of positive energy, and that the habits formed in childhood are among the most enduring contributions a community can make to the long-term health of the natural world.

The event is organised as part of the project 'Silesia. Blue Sky Restored'.

Host: Iwona Gębka, eco-manager of the Żarnowiec Municipality.
