How can you recognise a tree by its leaf, scent or bark? And why are trees one of the most important investments in the healthy future of our cities? Participants will discover the answers during the environmental field game ‘Guess who I am’, organised in Czeladź Park as part of the campaign ‘Green lungs of Czeladź’.
For one day the park will transform into a space full of nature puzzles and discoveries. Residents of all ages will set out on a green trail where they will identify the most common species of trees and shrubs growing in the park. The activity will take the form of an interactive outdoor game, turning learning about nature into an exciting adventure.
At the beginning, participants will learn about the role of trees in urban environments. The guides will explain why trees are often called the ‘green lungs’ of cities—they purify the air, lower temperatures during heat waves, store carbon dioxide and provide habitats for many species of plants and animals. In the context of this year’s EU Green Week theme, participants will also discover that planting and protecting trees is one of the most important ways of investing in nature and creating healthier communities.
After the introduction, participants will form small teams and follow the park trail. Each group will receive cards with clues and riddles about different tree and shrub species. Their task will be to find the correct plants and identify them using hints such as leaf shape, bark texture, fruit colour or distinctive plant scents.
During the game participants will encounter species such as oak, maple, lime, birch, rowan and hazel. Each discovered tree will become an opportunity for a short conversation about its role in the ecosystem and the importance of greenery for the quality of life in cities.
The game ‘Guess who I am’ combines movement, play and environmental education. Participants will spend time outdoors, work together in teams and rediscover nature that often surrounds us but remains unnoticed.
The event shows that investing in nature begins with learning about and understanding the natural world around us. The better we know the trees and plants in our parks, the more we appreciate their role in improving health, climate resilience and the quality of life in our communities.
The event is organised as part of the project ‘Silesia. Blue Sky Restored’.
