Description
This event focuses on the implementation of nature-based solutions for climate resilience in the Mediterranean region. The EU-funded CARDIMED project aims to establish a framework and network for enhancing climate resilience in the Mediterranean biogeographical region, by implementing and mainstreaming NBS for climate adaptation and mitigation.
To realise this vision, CARDIMED recognises the importance of integrating innovation across multiple disciplines, structuring the project on four pillars:
- digital technologies,
- social resilience,
- WEFE nexus,
- nature-based solutions.
During the event, we will focus on water circularity and resilience and how they can be achieved through the four pillars. The CARDIMED lead researchers of each pillar will present the state-of-the-art and the innovations applied at the 9 demonstration sites of the project.
- Towards climate resilience through nature-based solutions and water circularity: innovations applied in CARDIMED project (Simos Malamis, National Technical University of Athens – CARDIMED coordinator)
- Digital Tools Facilitating NBS Uptake for Climate Resilience & Adaptation (Panagiotis Michalis, Institute of Communication & Computer Systems)
- Community Resilience to Climate Change With & Through NBS DEMOs and Social Innovation (Niki Frantzeskaki, Utrecht University)
- Water, Energy, Food & Ecosystem Nexus Model Adaptation (Evina Katsou, Imperial College London)
- Reflections on building water resilience through integrated approaches: nature-based solutions, digital innovation, social innovation, WEFE nexus assessment (interactive session facilitated by CARDIMED partners)
The target audience of this event are policy makers and decision makers, scientists and researchers, local and regional authorities.
