International Summer School on Water Resilience and Nature-Based Solutions

Join Us for the EU Green Week: International Summer School on Water Resilience and Nature-Based Solutions  In June 2024, we invite you to participate in the International Summer School centered around the critical themes of water resilience, community engagement, and nature-based solutions (NBS). Hosted in Aveiro, Portugal—a city renowned for its approaches to efficient water management and steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship—this event promises a deep dive into innovative strategies and collaborative frameworks essential for addressing environmental challenges.  

The Summer School is a collaborative effort involving NBSINFRA project partners, such as UNESCO, and different stakeholders such as municipalities, universities, and schools, with simultaneous events. Tailored to meet the evolving needs identified within the NBSINFRA project, the program aims to foster a comprehensive understanding of water resources, resilience-building practices, and the strategic integration of nature-based solutions into critical infrastructure.

Key Activities:

• Webinars: Four webinars covering topics ranging from water resilience to sustainability, community engagement methodologies, science communication and best practices for knowledge.
• Masterclasses and RoundTables: Two days of in-person workshops. The first day focuses on university students, while the second day targets designers, engineers, architects, and local authorities, equipping participants with practical skills in stakeholder engagement and the design of resilient water infrastructure using nature-based solutions.
• Open Day: This day serves as an opportunity for civil society to interact with experts and gain insights into different applications of sustainable practices, and NBS solutions, among others.
• Ecoaventura (Ecoadventure): Concurrent with the Summer School, the Municipality of Aveiro hosts an annual event celebrating Environment Day for schools. Participants will have the chance to interact with educational exhibits and engage in tailored activities designed to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.  
• Featured Speakers: Esteemed international and national speakers will contribute their expertise, sharing insights and experiences to enrich the learning journey of participants. 
• Join the Movement: Be part of a transformative learning experience, forging connections, and exploring innovative solutions to address the pressing environmental challenges of our time.
