Economic models are valuable tools for exploring future scenarios, evaluating policy alternatives and supporting evidence-based decision-making in the field of nature-positive agricultural policy. They inform policymakers about the various policy measures and policy mixes available for achieving more sustainable and resilient agricultural systems, providing holistic approaches reflecting real world complexity.
Using the MAGNET, GLOBIOM, CAPRI, IMAGE and CLUMondo models, the Horizon Europe projects ECO-READY and LAMASUS offer new insights into how agricultural production could evolve while simultaneously addressing climate change mitigation and adaptation, and biodiversity protection and restoration. ECO-READY's insights will centre on the use of the biodiversity indicator module within the MAGNET model, as well as the conclusions that can be drawn about biodiversity loss impact. The LAMASUS findings will focus particularly on the benefits and trade-offs of an ambitious environmental scenario in which agricultural production is coupled with strong action to restore nature and address climate change. During this webinar, participants will be introduced to the latest modelling results from these projects and will explore the possible pathways they offer towards agricultural practices that promote farmers’ role as stewards of nature.
Beyond research, a policy session will address how such modelling evidence could inform the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy beyond 2027. The event will facilitate dialogue between researchers, policymakers and stakeholders regarding how agricultural policies can better invest in nature, ensuring a resilient farming sector and maintaining food security.
