Investments in nature based infrastructure build urban resilience

The conference ‘Investments in nature-based infrastructure build urban resilience’ focuses on how strategic investments in ecosystem-based solutions can strengthen cities’ capacity to adapt to environmental and climate challenges. Bringing together local government leaders, public institutions and sustainability practitioners, the event highlights the growing importance of nature-based infrastructure as a tool for enhancing urban resilience while delivering long-term environmental and socio-economic value.

The opening frames the conference within broader European priorities, emphasising the need to integrate ecological solutions into infrastructure planning and public investment strategies. The core of the event takes the form of an interactive workshop session, designed to engage participants in practical learning through real-life case studies. The workshop explores how nature-based infrastructure projects are implemented at the local level, focusing on water management, ecosystem restoration and climate adaptation.

The first case study examines the Bugaj Reservoir and its associated investment project, presented by government representatives, alongside the State Water Management Authority ‘Wody Polskie’ from the Piotrków Trybunalski Catchment Area Management Board. The second case study focuses on the Black Przemsza and related investment efforts, with contributions from policymakers, together with a representative of the State Water Management Authority – Polish Waters, Regional Water Management Board in Gliwice.

Designed for local and regional authorities, water management institutions and stakeholders involved in infrastructure development, the conference aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and inspire the replication of successful nature-based solutions.
