Koszęcin midsummer night: 'Eco midsummer wreath' competition

  • Conferenties en topontmoetingen

During Koszęcin Midsummer Night, residents of the municipality will discover that traditional customs and modern environmental awareness can complement each other perfectly. One of the highlights of the celebration will be the “Eco Midsummer Wreath” competition, combining regional heritage with the idea of a nature-positive economy.

Participants will create wreaths made exclusively from fully biodegradable materials – fresh plants, grains, herbs and flowers, as well as natural elements such as straw and eco-friendly strings made of jute, sisal, hemp, linen or cotton. In this way, the traditional decoration becomes a symbol of respect for nature and responsible use of natural resources.

Creating wreaths is not only a competition but also an opportunity to reflect on how everyday choices influence the environment. Using natural materials and avoiding synthetic elements demonstrates in practice that investing in nature can sometimes mean returning to simple, environmentally friendly solutions that have been part of local traditions for generations.
The event will have an open and intergenerational character.

Children, young people and adults from the municipality are all invited to participate. The shared activity of weaving
wreaths will encourage creativity, introduce participants to plants used in folk traditions and help build a deeper appreciation of nature.

The “Eco Midsummer Wreath” competition demonstrates that environmental protection does not always require advanced technologies or large financial investments. Sometimes it begins with conscious choices, respect for nature and a willingness to continue traditions in a sustainable way.

As part of the Koszęcin Midsummer Night celebrations, the competition will therefore become not only a beautiful element of a local cultural event but also an inspiration for building a community that develops in harmony with nature.

The event is organised as part of the project “Silesia. Blue Sky Restored”.
