Description
Nowadays, the biocidal active substances used in Europe are mostly chemical compounds. The problems caused by overuse of pesticides are still a concern for sustainability of our environment and global stability. In fact, their use throughout the world has increased by 50% over the last 30 years, and 2.5 million tons of commercial pesticides are now applied annually.
The project is closely linked to "Circular Economy and Quality of Life". This sub-programme aims to facilitate the transition to a sustainable, circular, toxic-free, energy-efficient and climate-resilient economy, as well as to protect, restore and improve the quality of the environment through widely scalable, smart and natural agricultural spraying. The use of chemical pesticides in agriculture contributes to soil, water and air pollution, biodiversity loss and can harm non-target plants, insects, birds, mammals and amphibians.
The main objective of LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is to develop an environmental and substitutive technology for pest control agriculture under greenhouse, bringing several benefits for land-use, water and life-being health. The technology aims to be more efficient and could be used in addition to other treatments or alternatively with such as bio-stimulants, biological control, preventive measures, etc.
The LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project will complement one of the aims of the new Green Deal: to restore natural functions of ground and surface water. This is essential to preserve and restore biodiversity in lakes, rivers, wetlands, marine ecosystem, and estuaries, and to prevent and limit damage from floods. Furthermore, one of the benefits of using smoke generators as proposed by LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is low groundwater contamination - low environmental impact.
The webinar will feature contributions from industry experts to address the importance of the use of natural fumigants and their contribution to improve water quality. It will also include contributions from other European projects that can provide other content related to the topic. Thus, the event will allow grouping, exchange of experiences, good practices, synergies, collaboration, exploitation of results, etc.
We will invite representatives of European and Spanish institutions to contribute their vision. The webinar will also address European funding and the possibility of scaling up this project to other European programmes.
Finally, the event will try to attract agents who are interested in learning about our project.
