The Metamorphosis Festival Kalamata is an innovative, community-driven event dedicated to climate education, sustainable mobility and creative civic engagement. As a partner event of the EU Green Week 2025, the festival aligns with this year’s theme - Clean, Competitive & Circular - by promoting urban resilience, environmental awareness and sustainable urban mobility.
Objectives:
- Foster climate awareness and inspire action, particularly among young people.
- Promote sustainable and safe urban mobility through creative interventions.
- Strengthen participatory urban planning with citizen involvement.
- Encourage interdisciplinary approaches to climate resilience in cities.
Target audience:
- Students and youth groups
- Local policymakers and urban planners
- Artists and cultural organisations
- Civil society, environmental NGOs and the general public
Format and activities:
The festival will take place in June 2025, marking World Bicycle Day (3 June) and World Environment Day (5 June).
Activities include:
- Asphalt art for safer streets: students will co-create street murals in key locations to raise awareness about safe mobility.
- Short film screenings: in collaboration with Kalamata’s Film Club, the festival will showcase films that promote environmental awareness.
- Cultural programme for schools: interactive storytelling and performances to engage students in climate-related issues.
- Workshop on sustainable urban mobility: a series of engaging discussions and hands-on activities addressing sustainable urban mobility.
- Children’s art exhibition: public displays of youth-created artwork focused on climate action and mobility.
