Description
With The Water Tree we intend to promote what is an authentic naturalistic heritage that is intertwined with an equally extraordinary patrimony of history, rich in testimonies linked to Latium Latinus and the places narrated in the Aeneid. The mouth of the Incastro and the port of the Rutuli – 09.06.2024 SUNDAY 9 JUNE 09.30 a.m.
With the visit to the mouth of the INCASTRO river, it will be possible to see the landscape with the great Latium Volcano on the horizon, where the Water Tree originates, that is the largest river basin south of Rome after the Tiber. At the mouth of the river INCASTRO lies an extraordinary archaeological area with the remains of a maritime station from the Roman imperial age and an ancient frontier sanctuary of the Rutuli of Ardea, with four temples about a hundred metres from the shore.
The place is mentioned by the poet VIRGILIO in the 6th book of the ENEIDE as CASTRUM INUI as the port of the Rutuli that connected the Mediterranean world with the peoples of ancient Latium. The visit to the mouth of the Fiume Incastro will brings us a close-up view of the ancient Numic river where, three years after the death of Turno, Aeneas drowned before the Rutuli, who had taken up arms against the invaders.
