Description
NewEcoSmart is an EU-funded initiative through ESF+, tackling the triple transformation – digital, sustainability, and skills – of European rural areas, specifically targeting adults aged 45+. NewEcoSmart focuses on sustainability by helping rural communities to develop circular economy skills and knowledge, while providing innovative digital tools. Rural areas are critical to Europe’s sustainability goals, and empowering these communities to embrace the EU Green Deal and Circular Economy Action Plan is essential for creating sustainable growth and jobs. By providing tailored training to upskill adults in digital, green, and entrepreneurial areas, the project promotes inclusion, environmental resilience, and new economic opportunities, ensuring that rural regions grow to be competitive in the face of global challenges.
In NewEcoSmart, collaboration with stakeholders happens in all phases of the project, co-creating, developing, and validating the project's activities. The NewEcoSmart community is a multilevel initiative that includes the creation of three local communities, one for each pilot region, as well as an inter-communities panel of ambassadors, which synergise their geographic context and sectoral expertise, reflecting on the vision and objectives for their respective ecosystem.
During this event, the ambassadors, project partners, and multiple stakeholders from the engaged regions and beyond will come together to discuss the challenges encountered so far and the policy measures needed to advance further towards a greener EU. Almudena Munoz, the CETEM NES coordinator, will provide an overview of NewEcoSmart and its focus on digital tools for greener EU areas. Carina Dantas from SHINE will discuss the NES community approach, followed by presentations from ambassadors and pilot site leaders representing the Coimbra, Yecla, and Pacentro regions. Additionally, there will be updates on the winners of the open call.
The value of the NewEcoSmart community approach will be highlighted, with emphasis on its role as the starting point for collaborative efforts towards sustainable practices, recognising the dynamic nature of community involvement and stakeholder engagement. This event is an attendance-free, online discussion open to participants through registration.
