Fostering collaboration, culture, and innovation to inspire climate-friendly cities Over three days, the Climate Festival will transform the area around the Sofia Central Railway Station into a vibrant hub for sustainability, collaboration, and urban innovation.
Bringing together citizens, institutions, urban planners, artists, businesses, and policymakers, the festival will offer a dynamic programme of discussions, exhibitions, workshops, artistic
interventions, a green marketplace, and community-led actions. At its core, the festival promotes climate resilience and sustainable urban development by demonstrating how underutilized city spaces can be reimagined as greener, more inclusive, and environmentally responsible places.
Through a strong focus on nature-based solutions, circular practices, and sustainable mobility, the event fosters awareness and practical engagement with the challenges and opportunities of building climate-friendly cities.
By activating this neglected urban area, the festival initiates a participatory transformation process that encourages long-term stewardship of urban ecosystems. It empowers citizens
and stakeholders to co-create solutions, strengthening community ownership and laying the groundwork for tangible improvements such as greener public spaces, enhanced urban
biodiversity, and more sustainable infrastructure use.
The festival is part of the EU-funded Be Ready Project, implemented under the Interreg Danube Region Programme. Through this framework, it contributes to broader financial, policy, and knowledge-based investments in climate resilience across the region, in alignment with the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. Nineteen partners from 12 countries collaborate to exchange expertise and support the integration of climate adaptation into urban planning and decision-making.
By engaging a diverse network of stakeholders—from public authorities and private sector actors to cultural organizations and local communities—the festival creates a platform for
cross-sector collaboration.
This inclusive approach ensures that environmental objectives are not only discussed but actively supported and implemented, contributing to a shared vision for a more sustainable and resilient future for Sofia.
