Since 2019, the Polytechnic of Viseu (PV) has been a partner entity of the European Green Week event through the organisation of Green Week IPV, an event dedicated to highlighting and discussing environmental issues, as well as promoting sustainable initiatives at the European level. This year, jointly organised by the Departments of Environment and Information Technology of the Viseu School of Technology and Management (ESTGV), Green Week IPV 2025 will be dedicated to the theme Sustainability 4.0, seeking to be a forum for presenting innovative responses to current environmental challenges, namely through technological tools.

Description

In the current context of rapid climate change and depletion of natural resources, environmental sustainability has become a global priority. Green Week 2025 – Environmental Sustainability 4.0 emerges as a forum for discussing innovative and necessary responses, exploring technologies such as computer science and artificial intelligence (AI) to address environmental challenges and the circular economy.
By analysing large volumes of data (Big Data), it is possible to monitor and predict environmental patterns, allowing for more efficient management of natural resources. Technologies such as smart sensors and real-time monitoring systems help detect and mitigate environmental impacts before they become critical.
Additionally, AI can optimise industrial processes, reduce energy consumption, share by-products, promote industrial ecology, and minimise waste. Intelligent automation and advanced robotics enable the creation of more efficient and sustainable production systems, aligned with the principles of the circular economy. This not only benefits the environment but also provides significant economic advantages for businesses, increasing competitiveness and innovation.
Green Week IPV 2025 will feature the 5th Workshop – Towards Zero Pollution, organised by the Environment Department in collaboration with the Informatics Department. The event will take place at the School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic University of Viseu (ESTGV-IPV) on 29–30 May, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
