Description
Europe is increasingly facing water-related challenges that require immediate attention and coordinated action. Droughts, floods and other extreme weather events have a negative influence on the economic, social and territorial cohesion of the EU, hindering the implementation of the Union's cohesion policy and increasing the risk of worsening social inequalities; Local, Intermediate and Regional Authorities assume essential responsibilities in water management and play an important role in the implementation of environmental policies.
EU Local, Intermediate and Regional Authorities are working towards water resilience by reforming urban and rural planning, renewing and building new infrastructure and green and blue spaces, restoring and protecting their waters and soils, and implementing flood and drought management plans. They are also responsible for gaining public acceptance of actions in favor of the climate and are the first to react to the effects of climate change.
This conference aims to initiate a public debate on what is needed to make the EU and its territories more water resilient.
It will be structured around two round tables which will deal with: - TR1- Climate change and its impact on drinking water resources - TR2- The place and role of Europe and the territories in this context The Conference will bring together, under the aegis of the European Committee of the Regions and Arlem, with the Department of Aude, European local authorities, and from the Euro-Mediterranean area, recognized experts in climatology and hydrology, representatives national and European institutions and civil society.
